THE NEUTRAL ZONE  is a project about two young artists who do not want to be simply considered “enemies”.

In September 2020, when the war sparked in Nagorno Karabakh, the two artists Aysel Amirova, from Baku, and Merri Mkrtchyan, from Yerevan, were far from their home countries.

In both Armenia and Azerbaijan support for the war dominated the public mood,  casting a dark shadow on those who stood for peace. Every day through online conversations the two friends supported each other, yet also shared struggles about the war.

As the news from the frontline was emotionally overwhelming, these two artists confess how the public narratives affected and shook their friendship, and describe how they still managed to act in harmony with who they are and what they believe.
