Caucasus Edition is accepting articles on a rolling basis. Here are the guidelines and procedures for publishing with us.

Caucasus Edition is an analytical and multimedia platform that seeks to contribute to peace and justice in the South Caucasus. It covers political, economic, social, and cultural issues that contribute to the conflicts and their escalation in the South Caucasus. By addressing taboos, stereotypes, and disinformation about the conflicts and different social phenomena, we try to critically reflect on the knowledge about ourselves and the world that perpetuates dehumanisation, enmity, and polarisation. We look for critical authors, as well as regional co-authorship pairs or teams, that share the same goals and vision for the South Caucasus to contribute analytical, multimedia, and opinion pieces.

The current main themes of the journal are:

  • Analysis of social, political, and economic issues in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia
  • Geopolitical turbulence and its impact on the South Caucasus
  • Ethnographic notes on different social groups in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia
  • Feminist Peace and Feminist IR
  • Decolonization and the South Caucasus
  • South Caucasus and Post-Soviet Space
  • Memory Work and Reconciliation: Challenging taboos about our own responsibility for violence, crafting alternative narratives (including visuals and maps that promote peace over conflict)

Format

Op-eds

Description: Op-ed offers the author’s personal viewpoint on a specific topic, often current events, social issues, politics, or cultural debates. Deadline: Should be submitted within one week of pitching the proposal

Honorarium: 250 USD

*Op-eds could also be complemented by a webinar.

Analytical articles

Description: An article that seeks to understand the "why" and "how" behind certain social, political, economic, or cultural subjects. The writer typically presents an argument or thesis and uses evidence, reasoning, and logical analysis to support their position.

Word count: 1500-3000

Deadline: Should be submitted within 3-4 weeks of pitching the proposal

Honorarium: 300-450 USD

Ethical Guidelines

  • Do no harm

Do not contribute to the proliferation or escalation of the conflict; refrain from presenting unverified information; exercise care when reporting on marginalised groups.

  • Do not reproduce disinformation and stereotypes

Avoid using victimising or demonising language; explicitly differentiate between facts and opinion/assumptions; practice triangulation when fact-checking; always fact-check;

  • Provide Diverse Perspectives

Identify all parties to the story and present them in your text; ask for comments from all sides of the story; check different positions and sources on the issue.
