Council of Europe stands for peaceful settlement Karabakh conflict (ENG)

The head of the Council of Europe office in Baku, Konstantin Erokostopoulos issued a statement indicating that the Council of Europe stands for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, on the basis of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

 

Airport construction in Khojaly illegal – ECAC (ENG)

The meetings held in Baku with representatives of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), discussed the issue of airport construction in the town of Khojaly. The statement came from spokesman for Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Maharram Safarli. According to him, ECAC reported that the construction of the facility in the occupied Azerbaijani territories was illegal.

The article is the interview of News.Az with Laurence Broers, Caucasus Programme Projects Manager, Conciliation Resources.  Broers discusses the role of reelection of Putin as Russian President in the Nagorno Karabakh negotiations and states that departure of Medvedev is a step back for the conflict as Putin does not have as much interest in advancing the process. Broers also emphasizes that two sides – Armenia and Azerbaijan has the biggest role in resolution of the conflict.

Minsk Group Urges Armenia, Azerbaijan To Settle Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict (ENG)

The United States, Russia, and France are urging Azerbaijan and Armenia to show the “political will needed to achieve a lasting and peaceful settlement” to their conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe made the call on March 22 to mark the 20th anniversary of the formal request to convene a conference on the conflict.

The three co-chairs of the Minsk Group urge the leaders of both sides “to prepare their populations for peace, not war.”

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan proposed to activate Nagorno-Karabakh negotiations during a meeting with US President Barack Obama reported Turkish newspaper HaberTurk. According to Stockholm International Peace Research Institute – Azerbaijan doubled its arms import between 2010-2011 and is not on 38th place on the ranking of the organization. Comparatively Armenia is only on the 84th place.

Armenians Violate Ceasefire (ENG)

Press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told APA that the units of Armenian armed forces fired on the positions of Azerbaijani Army in Alibeyli village and nameless heights of Azerbaijan’s Tovuz region and in Kamarli village of Azerbaijan’s Gazakh region from the positions in Mososgekh village and nameless heights of Armenia’s Berd region and Berdavan village of Armenia’s Noyenberyan region at 15.30-15.40, 16.45-16.55 on March 30, at 06.22-06.25 on March 31.
